Olympic
Games is the most famous event of sports of the world. Almost every country of the
world participate in this global event (Khelon Ka Mahakumbh).
Olympics and History
In earlier
time, Olympic was first played in the Greek town of Olympia in 776 BC.Olympic
Games got its name from its place of origination -Olympia.
Greek King
Georgois I inaugurated the ceremony and welcomed the athletes with a crowd gathering of 60,000 in the
Panathaenic Stadium of Olympia.
In the
first Olympic only athletes from Greece and some of its neighbouring state took
part.
Olden
Olympic Games continued from 776 BC to 393 AD at an interval of every 4 years
in Olympia from 6 August to 19 September during a religious festival honoring God
Jeus.

i) First
Olympic Champion – Coroebus in the Footrace called Stade event.
ii) Footrace
is the first Olympic event.
iii) Coined
stamped with Jeus figure and Olive Wreths were given as prizes.

was stopped for 1503 years from 393 to 1896.
Remerging Of Olympics
The Modern
Olympics was again held after a long period in capital city of Greece , Athens
in 1896. The credit for rebirth of Olympic Games goes to a Greek named Baron
Pierre de Coubertin ,who had given for the proposal of organizing Olympics in
1894. First Modern Olympic held from 6
April to 15 April in Athens stadium.The crown Prince of Constantine and Greek
King officially started the first Modern Olympic Games.
International
Olympic Committee (IOC) organized the first Modern Olympics. IOC chosen an
Olympic symbol that consists of five interlocking rings of 5 colors namely
Blue, Green, Red, Black and Yellow on a white field. The five colored rings in
the Olympic Flag represents 5 continents of the world – Asia, Africa, America,
Europe and Australia (Oceania). The Olympic flag was designed by Baron Pierre
de Coubertin. Olympic Hymns was composed by Spyridon Samarus and written by poet
Kostis Palamus.

about Modern Olympics:-
i) All athletes
were from Europe and America of which 65% were from Greece only.
ii) Silver
medal for 1st , Copper medal for 2nd and Bronze medals as 3rd prizes in the First Modern Olympics.
iii) Only
male athletes participated.
iv) 241
athletes from 14 countries took part.
v) Most
successful athletes – Carl Sachuhmann in Gymnast (won 4 events)
vi) U.S.A
ranked 1st with 11 gold medals while Greece won 46 medals.
Olympics
was divided into two events since 1994 – Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics
with an interval of 2 years between them.
Winter
Olympics was organized for ice and cold games.
Summer
Olympics were earlier called as –“Games of Olympiads”
